Prixo
Price tracking in your neighborhood
The story
The problem
In Morocco, the prices of basic necessities (bread, milk, oil, vegetables, fuel) can vary significantly from one city to another, and even between neighborhoods. Consumers lacked a centralized, reliable tool to know the actual prices charged near them and identify where to save money every day.
The spark
I realized that a participative (crowdsourcing) approach was the key. By allowing every citizen to share the prices they observe in their neighborhood, it becomes possible to build a comprehensive and constantly updated database. The major challenge was designing a Cloud Architecture capable of ingesting multiple contributions while filtering out outliers to provide reliable information.
The build
Building Prixo relied on several technological pillars:
- Mobile-First Experience: The platform was designed from the ground up to be usable one-handed on a smartphone, allowing users to add a price in under 10 seconds directly from the store.
- Data Engineering: I implemented Data BI systems to calculate average prices in real-time by neighborhood and display price variations since the previous reading.
- Acquisition and Engagement: Designing a clear interface ("Trending this week", "All products by category") that retains users and encourages them to return.
Today
Prixo is live and active. The platform already covers several major cities in Morocco (Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, etc.) tracking over 145 products. The project is experiencing strong community growth and is open to discussions with local investors and partners.
